South Carolina Championship Wrestling Camp


The South Carolina Championship Wrestling Camp is designed for the serious youth wrestler that really wants to take it to the next level. Learn winning Styles and proven Techniques that have produced State Champions and National Champion Wrestlers. Let our Champions find the Champion in you!

Led by Mark Cody, Head Coach at American University. Cody was a 3-time All-American and a 198lb finalist at the US Olympic Trials. Cody is also the man behind American University Wrestling Team’s rise to National Prominence and has coached over 40 NCAA All-Americans.

Featuring Luke Moffitt, currently head coach at Iowa Central where his team has won 5 NJCAA Championships in a row. Moffitt, an Iowa State Champion himself, also won a National Championship in 2000 and was a Big 10 Champion for the University of Iowa where he was named Outstanding Wrestler in the Big 10 Tournament in 2002.

Bobby Thompson Head Coach of Fort Dodge High in Iowa and former Iowa Cadet National Team Coach will bring the Mid-West High School Winning Strategies and Techniques from Iowa High School Best Training Technique Clinic, specifically designed to help wrestlers become well prepared to compete in the major summer tournaments like the Junior Nationals and Cadet National.

For the Girls:
Sara McMann is the first American woman in history to receive a silver medal in women’s wrestling (63 kg or 138.75 lbs.) at the 2004 Summer Olympics games in Athens, Greece. Sara was a Silver Medalist in 2003 World Championships and Bronze Medalist in 2005 & 2007 World Championships. Sara started wrestling at the age of 14 in Marion, North Carolina at McDowell High School.

Wrestlers will be grouped by ability levels and rotated through several technique stations.  Additionally, they will be able to choose special areas of emphasis:

• Advanced takedowns and setups
• Pinning/cradles, arm bars, leg rides
• Advanced defensive techniques
• Upper body throws
• Escapes and reversals

Typical Day:

7:30 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. Technique
11:00 a.m. Motivation-nutrition/weight training
12:00 p.m. Lunch
2:00 p.m. Technique
4:00 p.m. Recreation/Swim
5:00 p.m. Dinner
6:45 p.m. Technique
8:25 p.m. Competitions
9:00 p.m. Free time-movies
11:00 p.m. Lights out

Location/Directions

Housing and Food
All resident campers will be housed and fed at Coastal Carolina University Dorms, an air conditioned residence facility. All efforts will be made to meet roommate preferences. In case of unavailability, roommates will be assigned based on age. Camp staff have been through a security check and will supervise campers at all times. Commuters will receive lunch and dinner only and will have access to showers in CCU dorms. Girls will be staying in the girl dorms.

Check In / Check Out
Check in the first day of camp is 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Coastal Carolina Gym. Check out on the last day of camp is by 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Parents are encouraged to attend the wrestling tournament from 9 a.m. to 4pm on the Saturday, June 11th at the Coastal Carolina University Gym. It is an USA Wrestling event that features Freestyle, Greco and Folk Style wrestling and will begin Friday night with Greco competition. There will be  Ironman trophies for Outstanding Wrestler in two events.

What to Bring
Participants should bring blankets, sheets, a pillow, towels, toiletries, laundry detergent, swimsuits, a fan, alarm clock, plus practice equipment-running and wrestling shoes, t-shirts, shorts, socks, supporters, and sweat clothes. No tank tops. Knee pads and head gear are optional. Commuters must be properly attired for practice sessions. Avoid bringing valuables, as Champions  Sports Camps and Coastal Carolina University are not responsible for lost/stolen articles. A small amount of extra spending money is suggested.

Who is Eligible
Camps are geared for grades 1-12 and all levels (beginners to state champions). Resident campers must be at least 10 years old.

Rules and Regulations
Campers must abide by the rules and regulations of the Champions Wrestling Camps. Campers are required to attend all sessions and activities. Any serious violations, damage to CCU camp property, or other behavior deemed detrimental to the group will result in immediate dismissal. There will be no refund of fees upon expulsion or upon voluntary withdrawal from the camps.  Members of our Staff will be on 24 hour duty during the camp and Coastal Carolina University maintains campus security as well.

Insurance and Medical Care
A qualified Athletic Training Staff will be in attendance during camp activity sessions to handle any injuries that may occur. A parental authorization/release of information form is included and must be returned with the registration form. All insurance information must be complete or the camper will not participate. If applicable, a doctor’s release must be attached if camper is recovering from a recent illness or injury, or if he/she will be participating with a cast or splint. Note: Camp includes much physical activity. Participants are encouraged to be properly conditioned.

Coach Individual Camp $125

The resident camp fee includes instruction by top collegiate coaching staff and wrestlers, housing, unlimited food at all meals, athletic training services, camp t-shirt, and supervised swimming. Commuters receive all the features of the resident camp, with the exception of overnight lodging and breakfast.

    Are girls aloud to attend this too? Because I’ve been looking for a camp to go to this summer.

      Yes, girls are encouraged to attend and we have some special programs being planned for the girls with US Nationals Champion and Olympian Sara McMann.

    Can we come do the tournament in Myrtle Beach on the 11th even if we don’t do the camp? We have a conflict during the middle of the camp schedule, but would like to come for the tournament if possible. Thanks

    if we only want to do the saturday tournament, due to other conflicts, do we just show up on saturday?

    also, we may be able to to the commuter camp, but can’t be there until thursday, fri, sat, so if schedule allows, can our wrestler participate as a commuter beginning thursday?
